The Green Vault (Grünes Gewölbe)
The Green Vault (Grünes Gewöbe) is Europe's most magnificent treasure chamber museum. It contains masterpieces by the leading jewellers and goldsmiths, plus objets d'art in amber and ivory, jewelled vessels and priceless bronze statuettes. Exhibits include the Golden Coffee Set, the cherry stone with the "186 faces", the great ivory frigate and fanciful pearl figurines. The collection is so abundant that when the Residenzschloss was rebuilt the Grünes Gewölbe was divided into two separate permanent exhibition areas. The Historisches Grünes Gewölbe, the reconstructed treasure chamber created by August the Strong (1670-1733)boasts enchanting works of art in a baroque setting, with the treasures displayed on gilt consoles in front of mirrored walls. Alternatively, the Neues Grünes Gewölbe, presents around 1,000 selected masterpieces of treasury which can be viewed close-up in showcases made of antiglare glass, with perfect lighting that enables every detail to be appreciated.
