Rhenish Carnival

Düsseldorf is one of the carnival strongholds on the Rhine and the street carnival is one of the most important and popular events in Düsseldorf. The Rosenmontag parade, usually around the middle of February, with thousands of people in costume partying between Altstadt and Königsallee, is one of the highlights of the year.

Japanese Day

Every year in the spring time, the biggest cultural meeting festival of its kind worldwide, transforms the state capital of NRW into little Tokyo. Samurai present their magnificent suits of armour and long-weapons on the banks of the Rhine. Skilled Japanese sports demonstrations, Kimono fittings, Ikebana and Manga presentations for hours on end attract around a million visitors to Düsseldorf. The highlight is a spectacular Japanese fireworks display over the river Rhine. 

Biggest fun fair on the Rhine

Each year, in july, more than four million visitors are attracted by the biggest funfair on the banks of the river Rhine. Düsseldorf’s oldest marksmen’s guilt founded the festival in the 14th century to celebrate their patron St. Apollinaris. Especially charming is a Rhine River cruise during the great fireworks display.

Christmas Market

The enchanting market, busting with activity in the glow of a thousand lights, stretches over square and along streets in the city centre. Every street, every square tells a small winter tale of its own, with specially created nostalgic market huts.
