Dialogue Museum

There's nothing to see in the Dialogue Museum, but there's plenty to hear, feel, smell and taste. Here you can find out what it is like to experience your surroundings when you can't see anything at all. In the dark the most ordinary situations turn into journeys of discovery. Don't worry, though, visitors are not left on their own, blind or partially-sighted guides take sighted visitors around the Dialogue in the Dark exhibition. Pre-booked guided tours only. Closed on Mondays.

Opened in 2005, the Dialogue Museum in Frankfurt offers visitors a very special kind of sensual experience. The "Dialogue in the Dark" exhibition“ invites sighted people to find their way around in the pitch-dark world of the blind.

Discovering the invisible

Unlike other museums where there are collections on display, this is an exhibition where there is nothing to see. Visitors are invited to experience the world they know from a completely new perspective, and to discover the invisible in the "Dialogue in the Dark" exhibition. In the dark world of the museum, even a walk in the park can be transformed into an incredible adventure. Without the blind guide who walks through the darkness with remarkable ease, the visitor would be completely lost. The environment takes on a new quality – confused, impressed and thoughtful, sighted visitors learn to see things in a new way.

Exhibits

In front of the entrance, everything is brightly lit. But behind the doors lies a pitch-black world of darkness. In six completely dark interactive rooms in which everyday situations are recreated, visitors can experience what it's like for people who can't see. In the "Dialogue in the Dark" exhibition there's nothing to see, but there's plenty to hear, feel, smell and taste. Those left wanting more after the tour can train their skills in the entertaining "Casino for Communication" or put their tastebuds to the test in the "Taste of Darkness" – a restaurant in the dark, where you'll need your sense of smell and taste to work out what culinary delights lie on your plate.
