Lifestyle – Hannover

Shopping in style

A typical day in Hannover: spend the day taking a leisurely stroll through Germany’s longest pedestrian zone and drawing inspiration from the mix of boutiques and glittering department stores. Take some time out to relax in one of the street cafés or bistros, and then go on to conquer the half-timbered idyll of the Old Town with its art galleries, antique shops and little specialist stores. “Shopping in Hannover” means all of these things. Then, after a leisurely dinner in one of the numerous restaurants, you can paint the town red in the pub, disco and bar scene – right on into the small hours. And the best thing is that you can forget about long distances: the city on the River Leine offers everything within a very small area.

International Fireworks Competition

Garden city

Hannover’s special pride though is its many green spaces and leafy oases. With the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen, the treasured Eilenriede forest stretching into the city center, the Leine river, and the maritime flair of the Maschsee lake at the edge of the inner city, Hannover spoils its visitors with shady places to relax and a big variety of leisure and recreation activities. A diverse spectrum of sports events, open-air concerts and major festivals take place throughout the year. Highlights include the Schützenfest (Marksmen’s Fair), the Maschseefest lake festival and the International Fireworks Competition in the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen, which have deservedly acquired an international reputation, drawing crowds of visitors from all over the world.

Restaurants

Hannover also boasts a rich chioce of fine restaurants and bars. And, as a traditional city of beer, you will find many rusticin-house breweries in the Old Town.
