Schumann House (© LTM-Schmidt)
Robert and Clara Schumann took up residence here in their first shared apartment on 13 September 1840, the day after their wedding, which was also Clara’s 21st birthday. The time they passed here until December 1844 was a happy one both from a personal and an artistic point of view. Robert established himself as a composer, and Clara perfected her art. Their two eldest daughters, Marie and Elise, were born in the house.
The Robert and Clara Schumann Association, Leipzig, has been in existence since 1995. Organising concerts and exhibitions in particular, it endeavours to make the life and work of the Schumann couple known to the public at large.
